{"id":49,"date":"2006-11-03T07:14:00","date_gmt":"2006-11-03T07:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dhbolton.com\/blog\/?p=49"},"modified":"2006-11-03T07:14:00","modified_gmt":"2006-11-03T07:14:00","slug":"synchronicity-or","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dhbolton.com\/blog\/uncategorized\/synchronicity-or\/","title":{"rendered":"Synchronicity or&#8230;?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I published an article on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dhbolton.com\/articles\/averting-global-warming.html\">Averting Global Warming<\/a> suggesting using a shield in geostationary orbit to diminish the amount of sunlight reaching the earth.<\/p>\n<p>Today I noticed that the <a href=\"http:\/\/sciencenow.sciencemag.org\/cgi\/content\/full\/2006\/1031\/3\">Science Magazine website<\/a> published a similar idea but using the Lagrange Point (L1) which is a point where the gravitational attraction from the Earth and Sun is equal. You can see the 5 Lagrange Points in this image, borrowed from Wikipedia (Thanks chaps- I&#8217;ll return it when I&#8217;ve finished with it). <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/3385\/179\/1600\/lagrange.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/3385\/179\/320\/lagrange.png\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Lagrange Points (From Wikipedia)\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Great minds as they say! (&#8220;Think Alike&#8221;). I think my idea is better though for the following reasons:<\/p>\n<ul><\/p>\n<li>Cost. Cheaper to chuck something into a geostationary orbit.<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Cost 2. Material. Don&#8217;t need a ring of material stretching several hundred million miles<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Safety.
